Adele Gosiengfiao was born in Singapore in the town of Bishoy Le, near the village of Bukit Timah in the district of Bukit Timah. Her full name is Adele Yean Een Ching. Adele grew up in a family of six children, and she was educated at primary school and at secondary school, both of which she attended at the University of Singapore. After she graduated, she joined the faculty of the Film School of Singapore, where she earned a Master of Fine Arts in Acting.
During the early parts of her career, Adele acted in small film roles and did not receive any attention from the film directors. This was not surprising as the then-culture of Singapore was still very young, and many of the country’s leading film personalities were relatively unknown. This was to their misfortune, because Adele’s acting talent was outstanding, and she was overlooked by the industry for the roles that she was playing. However, after a couple of years of hard work, she finally found success with one of her most successful movies, Come Home, a commercial hit in the year 1983.
Adele grew to be an admired personality in the industry, and after a few more successful film appearances, she established herself as a well-known and respected actress in films and theatre. She has since gone on to establish a number of other careers, including being a member of the Royal Family in the Singapore Film Festival in the year 2021. Since her early days as an actress in Singapore, Adele has been rewarded for her varied talents in numerous fields, including writing, consulting, acting, directing, television, and even owning her own food restaurant in Singapore. Today, Adele is known for her wise investments, her philanthropy, her kindness and her warm personality.
Adele Wong’s biography covers her early life and her association with Singaporean society. She reveals her roots as a modest woman from rural Singapore who pursued her acting career with sheer grit and determination. She was also a dedicated and tireless worker for the Chinese community in Singapore, and her association with them helped her rise to heights in her chosen profession. Her wide range of characters and roles in films and theatre over the decades has earned her a great number of awards, including multiple Golden Globe Awards and the Order of the British empire from the Queen. She is today perhaps best known for her portrayal of the soft-spoken and humble Annette Benning in the award-winning film, Come Home, which was released in the year 1983.
