Most famous as the mother of three, Christine Ebersole is one of Hollywood’s first big names. Born in Chicago, Illinois, on February 21, 1953; daughter of Robert (now an architect) and Marianne (a social worker), Ebersole grew up in the modest Christian homes of their church. She has always remained open-minded and encouraged her children’s choices. She believed that education was important and believed strongly in family separation. Her early training came in part from her role as a Youth Director in movies such as “The Nutcracker” and” Cincinnati.”
Christine Ebersole is best known for her Academy Award winning performance as the young Natatorium Girl in Disney’s animated film The Lion King. She also appeared in a handful of other Disney films including The Great Mouse Club, Mulan, and Tarzan. After her years on the big screen, she decided to pursue acting full time, playing various supporting and leading roles in a variety of shows. In the process, she honed her craft and became one of the best known and respected female actors in Hollywood. Christine Ebersole’s first major break into Hollywood came with the casting of her younger brother Tony Goldwynner in “Grease” (which was actually the first musical installment of the Goldwynner family). Her role as a glamorous, spunky teen star was a huge hit with audiences everywhere. She went on to play the same role in “A Christmas Story” as her younger sister Corin. It was then that she was cast in more high profile movies such as “Pitch Black” and “The Perfect Score”. All of which earned her critical acclaim and a second Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.
During the late 90s, Christine Ebersole again found herself in the spotlight. She played the role of Rosemary in the Broadway musical “Hairspray.” Although not particularly a favorite of either her peers or the audience, this role easily won her another Academy Award for Best Actress in a Musical. She then appeared in the movie adaptation of the play, “Election” opposite Keira Knightley. Finally, she returned to Broadway for the movie version of “Sweeney Todd” opposite Bill Murray. Both of these movies went on to become successes both critically and financially.
Finally, in 2021, Christine Ebersole appeared in the film version of “Life of Pi.” She plays Angie, a member of the ruthless Triad whose husband, Dean, is continually being held in captivity. She subsequently captures the heart of Kiara Cruise in the role of Sienna. After the death of her brother Mike, Angie turns to her friend Sandy to get help locating her father’s killer. She also appears in the second installment of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” series as Hector Barbossa.
Although Christine Ebersole is best known for playing the role of rebellious teenagers in the past, she has also enjoyed a long and successful career on television. She began out as a series regular on the short-lived “American Pie” before landing appearances on numerous other television shows, including” Judging Almonds,” “Seinfeld,” “The Sopranos,” and “Heroes.” Her final major television role would be her voice-over role in the British film “The Grey Gardens.”
