Gayatri Joshi is a prominent Indian writer and academic who is mostly known for her biographical books on Indian politics, women and Indian women writers. She has written over twenty five books so far. She has been called “India’s first modern novelist”. Gayatri Joshi was born in 1913 in a small village called Sangli in the Eastern Ghats. Later she moved to Calcutta, where she earned a degree in journalism, before moving to New Delhi and getting a position as a journalist.
Gayatri’s family lived in Sangli. She has several memories of growing up in that locality. She was quoted as saying that she never felt homesick even in her years of living abroad. Gayatri has been described as a passionate lover of literature by her daughter Sharmila Jayant.

Gayatri joshi’s first book ‘Bindu’ was published in 1970 and focused on Hindu mythology and legends. Then she wrote ‘Nirvana’, which explored the concept of religious ecstasy. After that she wrote her first biographies, one of them was ‘A History of India’ from which a lot of the information in the Nagpur incident can be derived. After that she wrote about Ayurveda, which was a medicine which has been used for thousands of years in ancient India. This gave rise to ‘Ayurveda choli’, which is a must-have item in every woman’s collection. Apart from this, Gayatri joshi has also written a number of books on cooking and travel, which will be very popular with her fans.

She has also featured in many popular movies and also appeared in the movie ‘Mankatha’ where she played the role of a warrior who falls in love with the daughter of a common man. Gayatri’s resume is full of varied roles that have made her actresses that are loved all across India and the world.
It should be known that Gayatri has appeared in all kinds of films and is best known for playing the lead character in a Hindi movie called ‘Neel Sagar’. In this film she plays the character of an intelligent and strong girl who becomes a martial arts expert in order to protect her father’s business from pirates. After saving her father’s business and herself from a dangerous man she falls in love with another woman. After marrying her partner she gets a job as a nurse at a renowned institute of medicine in New Delhi. The movie ‘Neel Sagar’ was directed by Shimit Amin and released in 2021. After that role Gayatri played the lead role in ‘Arundhati’ that was based on the life of Subhas Chandra Bose who was an Indian freedom fighter and later became a leader of the Indian freedom movement.
