Kajal Kiran’s first screen appearance came in the Hindi movie Mithun, co-starring Aishwarya Rai. She was very popular amongst the Hindi audience and was nominated for the best actress award at the 1986 Cannes Film Festival. She went on to appear in several more Hindi movies, which made her a star in her own right. Her popularity increased with the release of her action-packed action-thriller Death squad, in which she starred along with D. Santosh and Madhubala Murthy.
Kajal continued to rise in prominence, with appearances in several popular movies such as Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, Vaahimsa, Kya Kool Hain Hum, Kajal Advani, Mumbai Tees Maar Khan, Mumbai Mar Ghazi and Kajalaxmi. She finally won her first ever Best actress award for Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani in 1990, which catapulted her to stardom status. Kajal was married to Manjishtha Sen in 1984 and they had four children.
