According to the gossip columns at the time, producers blamed Freeman for not wearing tights when working on the movie Dogtown. But according to producer Sam Yampersmith, it actually was due to a grandmotherly pride thing. Freeman’s mother wore tights on a regular basis, and because of this, Yampersmith reasoned that Mona was in danger of developing similar foot problems. After explaining the situation to Freeman’s mother, she left town and never worked in Hollywood again.
