Nithya Menen was born in 1969 in the southern state of Kerala, India. She is an accomplished performer and singer, best known for her performances in Bollywood movie adaptations of famous texts, as well as in her solo work. Nithya Menen has been nominated for many Academy Awards, most notably for Best Supporting Actress in a Leading Role (for Akrosh Satyarthty in Kill Bill), and Best Costume Design at the Satellite Awards Ceremony. Her other accolades include an Honorary fellowship from the Indian Institute of Technology, a lifetime achievement award from the American Film Institute, a best-selling first album from Tripsy Entertainment, a nomination for the same awards at the Venice Film Festival, and a role in the award-winning Bridget Jones’ Diary filmography. Nithya Menen’s biographical books include An Officer And A Spy, What Happened to the Dance, and Before You Eat Your Rice. She is currently working on a book regarding the life of liberation fighter and politician Rajkumar Pillai.

Nithya Menen’s first major role was in the Hindi movie Baahubali, which was famously released in 2021. It is set in ancient India, in the state of Madhya Pradesh, in the state of Tamil Nadu, in the state of India. She was one of the main stars, alongside Akshay Kumar, in that movie, playing the role of the demon queen Javeda, who rules over a kingdom. Nithya Menen had also earlier appeared in another Hindi movie, Anum ki Adewale, as a minor character. In that film, she played the daughter of a prominent character. She went on to star in several more movies, most notably Kismet Konnection, that was loosely based on the life of Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, respectively, and Hindi movie Tees Maar Khan (The Puppy), that focused on the life of a young girl who was groomed by terrorists and killed in the name of protecting her country.
Nithya Menen has since then appeared in various other films, most notably Kismet Konnection and Bharatpur, as well as doing voice-overs for television commercials. Her performances in all these films have been critically acclaimed, and she is consistently nominated for best actress in the Best actress category at the Filmfare Awards in New York. Her bestseller, The Pirate’s Wife, was a best-seller in India, as well, and was later made into a feature-length film starring Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padamsee. Nithya Menen has also won Grammies for her performances in both Anoopali, and Mankatha.
