Priscilla Dean is a singer, actor, and author best known for her role as “Fonzie” on the television series Happy Days. She later went on to develop her acting career with some success, most notably in the movies Bridesmaids and Wayne’s World. She is also well known in the world of comedy, having made guest appearances on numerous stand up comedy series including The Simpsons and Family Guy.
Priscilla Dean was born in 18952 in New York City, the daughter of Irish immigrants. She was named Priscilla Fonzie because her stepfather was Fonzi, a con artist famous for his rackets that operated as a sort of stage magician. Priscilla’s father died when she was very young, but her mother kept the name. When Priscilla was very young, she learned how to speak Italian, and this helped her gain a position as a nanny in a household in which there were a number of Italian women. From this position, Priscilla learned a great deal about the life of an Italian American woman.

After graduating from the Catholic Boys’ School in Brooklyn, New York, Priscilla began working as a singer and dancer in the theaters. She had a small role in one of John Kennedy’s early films, appearing in What’s Your Number? Then she appeared in several musicals and was part of the synchronized group, Opera singers. A childhood friend, Ellen Tracy Carleton, gave Priscilla her first break as an actress when she was cast in the classic film Stagecoach. Priscilla Dean was soon a mainstay in the Broadway and movie industry, most notably as a stage actress in such movies as It’s a Wonderful Life, On the Waterfront, Romance, and On the Way Home.
In recent years Priscilla Dean is an actor par excellence, perhaps best known for her role as Serena Monroe in the movie version of The Breakfast Club. She has also received numerous honors for her contributions to the arts. Her many awards include an Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role and Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her contribution to the aforementioned musical The Jacket. She is also a recipient of numerous Emmys, including Outstanding Comedy Series or Lead Performance in a Comedy Series for her performances on stage and in movies. Her total net worth would place her at the top of our current list of American celebrities who are rich with money and with whom we should all feel proud.
If Priscilla Dean had not gotten her break on Broadway, or if she was not cast as Serena Monroe in the film version of this book, she could have continued with her prolific acting career into the nineties, doing anything she wanted. As it stands though, Priscilla Dean still has plenty of acting left in her. She has a series of films due out this summer, including a role as the villainess in the remake of Charlie Brown in June of 1996. Then in August, she will star as a young Genghis Kahn in the independent film Rounders. These roles will help to keep her name in the limelight and keep her name among the top of the actors and actresses who make their mark on the New York City film scene.
One of the interesting things about Priscilla Dean’s net worth, is that it seems to be steadily increasing, as she ages. For a woman who was once quite content being a divorced housewife with two children, divorced or not, it seems odd that she would want to be actively involved in a showbiz career at all. Perhaps it is due to her upbringing during the period of the Great Depression, when her father was in the midst of mental insanity and untreated. Or maybe it is due to the fact that Priscilla is a very gracious woman and she likes to help those in need, even if they are not herself. Whatever the reason, Priscilla Dean is a successful actress and seems to have no qualms about expressing her opinions in her various media outlets.
