Raima Sen was actually born in Bengali town called Benobeddi in West Bengal, India. As we all know, Benobeddi is located at the confluence of two rivers, Beniyal and Banaras. Raima’s father was a government worker and his mother was a talented artist who were good at painting. Raima was given to another artist as a nanny and it was here that Raima was taken under the wing of Babu Sen.
Raima’s early years at this tender age would have been spent recuperating after her mother died and she had just been cast in her first ever starring role in a Hindi movie named “Chalega Mala”. Raima’s first break in the Hindi film industry was in the movie called “Pappu” in which she played the lead role. Raima was then known as Karan Johar and it was here that Raima made her biggest and most successful film “Kodambakkam” in which she again played the lead role. Raima’s next best film in the English language was “Ace Bhaskar”, in which she again starred alongside Manish Dayal and Manish Malhotra. Raima is also known for her association with the Hollywood film industry and she appeared in “Singh in King” as well as “Rehenkonzer” in the year 1999.
Raima is also known for her association with the Hindi film industry, having worked on at least five Hindi movies and also on at least one English language movie. Raima has not been shy about sharing her opinions on Indian cinema, while at the same time she has never shirked on expressing her views on Indian and Asian culture. Raima has always cited her affection for both Hindi films and Hollywood movies and even in her latest release “Mansana” she refers to the people of India and Asia in a romantic manner. Raima has been quoted as having a soft corner for all the people from the subcontinent, a corner that is often ignored by other actresses in Bollywood.
