Vaidya along with some of his students went on a much-deserved hunger strike in order to bring about a reduction in the wage rates for the people of Karnataka. This was a turning point for the entire nation and everybody took to the streets in the biggest demonstration in the history of Karnataka. Even the central government was informed and decided to support the strike and send officials to the regions to help the people. This marked the arrival of a new era in the history of Karnataka politics and changed the face of the State forever.
