Sukumari also played a leading character in another Malayalam movie called ‘Benda’. Sukumari’s role as Padma shri was significant in establishing the Female Genre in Indian cinema. She played a character who was a rebel against the British and her determination to avenge her brother’s death was instrumental in changing the course of history. Sukumari’s most popular role in Tamil movies has to be that of Padma, the main protagonist in the hit movie, ‘Aabir’. She has been nominated for the best actress award in the same category as Aishwarya Rai in the 2021 Film Festival across India.
