Sulakshana Pandit first came to limelight in the late eighties, following a string of well-received films that saw her playing different characters. She later went on to star in some more successful movies, but has since then gone back to making smaller roles in movies. She is most famous for being the voice behind Devi inside the movie, Apne for which she was nominated for an Oscar, as well as her television appearances in such shows as Lakhmi, Bracona and Mankatha. She has also acted in some feature films, most notably Kismet Konnections, Mumbai Lum ours and Arundhati.

According to Sulakshana Pandit Biography, Sulakshana Pandit first became interested in dance at a very early age, likely as a result of hearing songs performed by female artists who were then not part of the Indian hapless folk tradition. She was so impressed that she continued to watch and learn the dances of other women even after becoming a part of the haute couture. In her book, she reveals how her early attempts at being a dancer failed, but her determination and passion for the art kept her interested in it. Her first attempt was a failed attempt at opera, but after a series of failed attempts at various types of showbiz shows, she finally became the toast of the town and the title of one of the best known Hindi lyricists.
As the legend goes, Sulakshana Pandit got the talent for singing by her real name, Sita. However, the artist who had heard of her true name did not feel comfortable giving her the real name, thus, explaining Sulakshana by the name Sita was born. This is the birth place of the famous Hindi actress. Although Sita did not succeed in the theater, but later on she managed to win many accolades for her performances in movies and singing.
In the recent past, Sulakshana has been nominated for some awards, particularly for the best actress award for the movie “Singh in King’s Court” in 2021. Her contribution to the Hollywood scene was most prominent during the period of the recession in the late eighties. There was no money for films and actress had to do all the hard work herself, which paid off in the end. She did feature in “Chak De! India” as well as “Shodh” and is now happily enjoying her life in London.
