Takayo Fischer was born in 1944 in Detroit, Michigan. She grew up in the metro area of Michigan and graduated from High School at age 16. She is well known for her roles in films such as Stripes, Pretty Woman, and Grease. Takayo Fischer was also an active member of the Air Force and worked as a Radio Frequency Operator and an electrician.

Takayo Fischer was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her performance in Grease. In fact, she was so nominated that many people believed her award to be given out in January of 1988. After the award, Takayo made a statement in Variety Magazine, claiming that she was not interested in acting anymore. However, her publicist, Rob Reiner, claimed that Takayo was joking. To this day, no one can confirm whether Takayo actually said that she no longer wanted to act, or if she ever said anything about quitting.
