Tan Kheng Hua, better known as Tan Kheng during her appearances on TV shows in the 90s, is one of the few local actresses to have garnered widespread popularity in mainland China. A resident of Jeju Island in South Korea, Tan Kheng Hua has been seen in a number of high profile films. She has also gained local fame through her musical productions and appearances at various fairs. Her association with martial arts began in her early years when she began learning taekwondo from a young age. Today, Tan Kheng Hua continues to hone her martial art skills while working hard to conquer her acting roles.
Known as Tan Kheng Hua in Chinagaili, her real name is Tan Kheng Siou. Her real father is a shipping company executive who emigrated to Australia when Tan Kheng Hua was very young. Her mother prefers to call herself Doctor Hua, despite the fact that her real name is Tan Kheng Hua. Tan Kheng Hua’s official birth date is not known, nor is her exact birth date, but according to some records, she was born on November 8, 1963 in Singapore.

Tan Kheng Hua rose to stardom after her stint on the TV series Crazy Rich Asians. The show became popular in Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, and Thailand. The Thai version of the show became very popular in its second season. Her first major role in a western production was the characterizations of Dr. Wu, a Chinese American doctor played by transcriptions of Dr. David Posner. She went on to star in other notable TV shows such as Hung the Fat, Major Davis, and Hawaii Five-O.
Tan Kheng Hua was born in Singapore on the day of the National Day. On that day, the Statue of Singapore’s Foreign Secretary, Dr. Oh On, paid a visit to his counterpart in China, Premier Li Peng. During the meeting, Oh brought with him a message for Li Peng that read, “I appreciate the positive thoughts your Majesty has for me.” Li Peng replied, “I will think of you and wish you well.” To this, Tan Kheng Hua sang a song that can be heard on YouTube; it is entitled “My Favorite Things”.
In the late sixties, Tan Kheng Hua began to receive strong national and international publicity for her role in Crazy Rich Asians, as well as her performances in other media, including TV3’s Saturday Night Live. This was at a time when Singaporeans were still hesitant to have full civil partnerships and would instead prefer to get married only if they were either tourists or immigrants. Through these media appearances, Tan Kheng Hua’s career began to prosper. She moved into acting full time and appeared in more media, including movies and television, until the late seventies, when she began to get popular again.
At present, Tan Kheng Hua continues to be immensely popular both as an actress and a vocalist/singer. Her most famous role to date is that of Ngoc Dang. The movie, Crazy Rich Asians, was released in March this year and has become extremely popular among the masses. The plot revolves around the story of Ngoc Dado, who marries an American woman and becomes a millionaire in Singapore. A Singaporean actress by the name of Priya Paul, played by Tan Kheng Hua, also plays the lead role. The movie has achieved immense success and was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Picture.
